Undoubtedly, social media has become a huge marketing tool for businesses. Whether it’s Instagram, Facebook. TikTok or Pinterest, we all know there are great benefits from posting content on these social media platforms regarding our business.
For a lot of us, when we post, it seems like we aren’t getting the results we thought we would. The unfortunate thing is, just simply posting isn’t always enough. We can’t just show up and expect the traffic and sales to come in, like we are Beyoncé. However, when we post quality content strategically, the results will be so beneficial. For example, you can build up your brand, have genuine relationships with your audience by building trust with your customer and even earn more revenue. That sounds great, but how do you do it?
With that said, here are 4 strategies on how to build your Social Media presence that you can implement now! 👊
You should set goals for yourself, the more specific the better. I know this may sound like basic advice but that's exactly why I am advising you to do it. We know we need goals, but most of the time we don’t actually sit down and set those goals. Without personal specific goals, we may default to comparing ourselves to others, which will only be discouraging. Or you could actually be killing it, but you can't see how amazing you are doing because you forgot to set the bar.
As the saying goes, little drops of water make a mighty ocean. Little goals may feel insignificant but collectively they can make a big difference. They also keep you motivated to continue, because you are gaining confidence in your ability to accomplish your goals. So set realistic, relevant and attainable goals and work toward them today.
Don't shy away from your big goals either! The big goals are essential too, because you need to know what you are working towards.
Here’s something to keep in mind, don’t let the pressure of reaching your goal force you into decreasing your quality of content. For example, If your goal is to increase brand awareness, then your content should reflect that. You wouldn't be posting for the sake of posting and show your Starbucks drink, for the sake of content (unless that’s apart of your brand, then do you boo)
Everyone is NOT your audience. I know that's a hard pill to swallow. You may feel as I did, that anyone can buy your service or products, so you want to market to everyone. Although that is technically true, when you try to sell to everyone, your really not talking to anyone. Also, everyone won’t like your content or need your service so, you should be focused on your specific audience.
Knowing your audience will help to determine your brand voice, how to market and the type of content. For example, if your audience is young black girls in America under 25, you may use more slang, trending sounds and be in the beauty niche. You may say like “Hey Girlies” or post about the Barbie movie with the cute pink outfit you are wearing.
When you put in the effort to find your audience, you will be able to understand their problems/pain points. This helps you to know how to deliver your content and then content creation becomes so much easier! That is because you now understand their challenges and you are able to offer them a solution (your product or service) in a way they understand. Just think of the way you may explain something to your grandma, isn’t the way you would explain it to your bff.
One of the biggest mistakes people make on social media is, not showing your face. This one is tough for me too, so i get it. Unfortunately, nowadays, having a completely faceless brand isn’t going to give you the results you want.
Transparency is king. People want to know who they are buying from, so they can trust and relate to them. Developing a relationship with your audience is going to pay off in the long run. People buy from those they know, like and trust. Think of Oprah’s favorite things. She’s able to sell so much products, that she doesn’t even own, just because she said she likes them. She is only able to do that, because people like her!
“Showing your" face” also doesn't just mean to be on camera. It requires you to show your personality too. If your bubbly or serious, your ideal audience will like to get to know you. Your personality can show in your content through what you say, your captions and even your graphic design.
A lot of times we forget to put the social in social media. But engaging with your audience is a great way to build relationships with them. It’s easier to keep a client then to get a new one so you want to keep up your relationships with them even online.
You can engage with your audience by commenting on their posts, share their content and respond to their comments. This will also trigger them to do the same. It’s the Law of reciprocity - when someone does something for you, you feel obligated to do something for them too. This isn’t to say guilt them into engaging with you! It’s just how the mind works.
The amount of followers is a big deal to a lot of people. Know that quality followers are way more valuable than having an abundant followers. The quality followers will be your biggest fans! Put the effort in to foster those relationships, and the results may surprise you.
